The quick answer
Early-game progression spoilers below. The chained courtyard at the early settlement needs a specific Phantom Edge. Do not assume that every closed gate uses the same tool.
The prerequisite tool
Both 3DM and GamerSky report that defeating the early axe-wielding story boss grants 巨凶斧. We retain the Chinese item name because its release-build English name has not been verified here.
Return to the chained courtyard
GamerSky’s A8/B1 route says to return to the settlement after obtaining the axe and use it to break the courtyard chains. This is the chained courtyard described in B1, not a universal instruction for every locked door.
A short obstacle check
- Have you obtained the axe reward, or are you still before that story fight? If you do not own it, continue the available main route.
- Our suggestion: compare the tool requirement on the map with your equipment before returning. A different tool icon means this guide may not apply.
- If you own the tool but remain stuck, record your platform, build and a screenshot of the obstacle before seeking help. We have not verified a universal bug fix.
